Project Framework

Joining forces with local communities, E3 delivers streamlined, collaborative technical assistance to transform manufacturers' operations into more profitable and sustainable business practices. The E3 progression entails:

ASSESS -->  TRANSFORM --> SUSTAIN

Assess

Local E3 team identifies community needs, defines roles and responsibilities, and recruits manufacturing partners. Technical assistance leads provide manufacturers with coordinated, customized assessments of selected production processes and comprehensive report of opportunities. The assessment includes the following components:

  • Lean and Green Review, which leads to increased productivity, reduced costs, and reductions in water use, materials, and energy.
  • Energy Assessment, which provides tools and tips for reducing energy demand and costs.
  • Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Evaluation, which teaches manufacturers how to calculate GHG emissions and evaluate reduction strategies.
  • Post-Assessment Recommendations, which guide each facility toward improving overall efficiency, reducing waste and using resources such as energy and water more efficiently, and saving money.

Transform

You won’t have to spend valuable time navigating through a myriad of complex federal programs. The E3 Support Network will provide tailored information on the most appropriate tools, training, and financing options to support implementation of recommended actions, including purchasing new systems and equipment.

Workforce training provides targeted and certified skills in sustainable technologies. These skills will enhance job retention and growth. The E3 Team will review the results from the technical review and conduct interviews to customize each company’s E3 Workforce Training and Support Program.

Sustain

Local E3 teams provide a forum for manufacturers to network, share best practices, learn about new technologies, and work together to achieve long-term sustainability goals. And you’re not alone on this journey to sustainable manufacturing—you will have opportunities to network with other small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to discuss challenges and find solutions.
