2010 Census

Five Selected for Advisory Committees — Five new members will join the Census Bureau's five race and ethnic advisory committees. These committees -- African-American, American Indian and Alaska Native, Asian, Hispanic, and Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander -- advise the Census Bureau on issues affecting minority populations. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late April.)

Demographic

Estimates of U.S. and State Population by Age, Sex, Race and Hispanic Origin: July 1, 2007 — Are there more women than men in America? How old are they? What are their races and ethnicities? National- and state-level population estimates answer these questions and more about our demographic characteristics. Broadcast rip-and-read scripts will be available for each state and the District of Columbia in English and Spanish. (Tentatively scheduled for media embargo on April 29, with public release on May 1).

Profiles of Older Workers: 2004 — The Census Bureau, in partnership with 31 states, has launched a series of reports on workers 55 and older. New Jersey's report is set for release the week of April 27, and Maryland is scheduled for the week of May 18. Previously released reports on Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Vermont and Wisconsin are available at <http://lehd.did.census.gov/led/library/profiles_2007.html>.

States in Focus: Census Bureau Pre-Primary Snapshot — A look at the population, selected characteristics and 2004 voting percentage of states as they approach their 2008 primaries. Indiana's and North Carolina's profiles will be released on April 30. Previous releases are available at <http://www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/voting/2008_elections.html>.

Support Providers: 2005 — These tables look at those who provide support to people living in other households and how much. The data include selected characteristics about support providers, such as their marital status, employment status, education level, race and Hispanic origin. Although providers are often associated with child support, the category also includes those who pay support for people not living in the same household, such as parents or relatives. The data for these tables come from the Survey of Income and Program Participation. (Tentatively scheduled for release in early May.)

Participation of Mothers in Government Assistance Programs: 2004 — Analyzes the socioeconomic characteristics of mothers participating in six public assistance programs, including Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, food stamps and Medicaid. (Tentatively scheduled for release in early May.)

Facts for Features

The Fourth of July — Happy birthday, America! The Census Bureau celebrates the 232nd anniversary of our nation's independence with a collection of statistics on flags, fireworks and food. (Scheduled for release on May 4.)

Conversion from Analog to Digital TV (Feb. 17, 2009) — Facts and figures from the Census Bureau's statistical abstract and other federal sources relating to television programming and the conversion from analog to digital broadcasting. (Tentatively scheduled for release in May.)

Editor’s note: Facts for Features are customarily released about two months before an observance in order to accommodate magazine production timelines.

Pennsylvania in Focus: Census Bureau Pre-Primary Snapshot — April 16 — The state's 2007 population of 12.4 million had a higher median age, a higher percentage of whites and a lower percentage of Hispanics than the rest of the nation.

Consolidated Federal Funds Report: 2006 — April 23 —The federal government disbursed $2.45 trillion in domestic spending in 2006, a 7.5 percent increase over 2005. This annual data set provides an overview of federal spending for procurement contracts, salaries and wages, direct payments, loans and insurance at the national, state and county levels.

Net Worth and the Assets of Households: 2002 — April 24 —Income and net worth are two important factors in determining economic well-being in the United States. This report looks at net worth and asset ownership by various socioeconomic factors, including monthly income. The data come from the Survey of Income and Program Participation.

Father's Day (June 15) — April 17 — The Census Bureau honors "dear old dad" with a collection of statistical information from its demographic and economic subject areas pertaining to Father's Day.
