Changes for DNA.gov

The President's DNA Initiative, which began in early 2003, had the lofty goal of ensuring that DNA technology was used to its full potential to protect the innocent, convict the guilty and solve missing persons cases and identify human remains. Since that time, the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and the other partner agencies of the Initiative have strived to meet that goal.

DNA.gov has been the main vehicle for the public to learn about and benefit from those efforts. NIJ maintained DNA.gov long after the Initiative ended to continue providing the criminal justice system and the public information about forensic DNA. NIJ has now decided to merge the content from DNA.gov into the Institute's own website, NIJ.gov. NIJ will continue to offer information on the use of forensic DNA and in particular the free online courses that so many users have taken advantage of will remain available.

This change has begun and will continue throughout the summer and into the winter of 2012.

Please contact us at AskNIJ if you have any questions about this move.
