Notice of Availability of PDAT Funds for September 11th National Day of Service

____________________________________________________________________________
July 26, 2011

To:                               State Service Commissions

From:                John Gomperts, Director of AmeriCorps
Margaret Rosenberry, Director of Grants Management

Subject:            Notice of Availability of PDAT Funds for September 11th National Day of Service
____________________________________________________________________________

Description:
The Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act in 2009 designated September 11 as National Day of Service and Remembrance.

In commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) is making additional PDAT funds available to State Commissions to engage individuals in service to their communities during the National Day of Service and Remembrance. The Corporation is allocating $10,000 to each State Service Commission.  If any state chooses not to apply for the funds, we will make supplemental funds available to other states.

The funds must be used in accordance with the purpose of the PDAT funds as outlined in the grant provisions. This includes outreach and public education to potential grantees, subgrantees, and sites to promote and strengthen the national service infrastructure in the state.  Activities should be implemented on or near September 11, 2011 and clearly be linked to the observance of the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance.

How to Apply:
To apply, please submit a notification to your program officer and grants officer by August 5, 2011 at 5pm EST.  The notification should include:

• Name of State Service Commission;
• Specify the amount of allocated funds you are requesting (cannot exceed $10,000);
• Provide a brief description of proposed activities along with written confirmation that funds will be used in accordance with the purpose of the PDAT grant; and,
• If you are requesting supplemental funds, please provide a brief description of proposed activities and the additional funds required.

Following submission of notification, your program officer will contact you to initiate an amendment to the PDAT grant.  Commissions must be prepared to provide the necessary information needed to complete a budget adjustment to reflect the additional PDAT funds awarded.  If supplemental funds are available, we will notify commissions that request them by August 9th.
