Washington, Jul 27, 2012 -

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen issued the following statement in response to the Federal Election Commission’s (FEC) announcement about how it plans to follow the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia’s ruling in the Van Hollen v. FEC lawsuit:

“The FEC’s announcement to follow the Court’s ruling is a welcome and necessary step forward. This lawsuit is one step forward in our fight to restore the integrity of our electoral process, and will shine an important light on some of the shadowy money that has flooded our elections.  But there is more to be done.  That is why Democrats in both the House and Senate will keep fighting for the DISCLOSE Act, which will promote transparency and disclosure of the funds being used to influence our political process.  Our nation must have a political system that is fair, transparent, and accountable – the fundamental nature of our democracy is at stake.”
