Video Advice Columns from Dr. Carolyn Clancy
Patients who are involved in their health care get better quality care and better results. These videos on Navigating the Health Care System feature Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Director Dr. Carolyn M. Clancy, M.D., encouraging patients to ask questions of their doctor, nurse or pharmacist and to speak up if they have concerns about medications, tests, or procedures.
Background
Preventing medical errors is a task best shared by care providers and patients. To help patients understand their role in preventing errors, AHRQ has created five 2-minute videos in English on Navigating the Health Care System. In these videos, AHRQ Director Dr. Carolyn M. Clancy, M.D., gives patients advice on and examples of questions they should ask about their medical tests, surgery, and medicines so they can avoid medical errors. These videos complement Dr. Clancy's monthly Navigating the Health Care System advice column, which is available on the AHRQ Web site at http://www.ahrq.gov/consumer/cc.htm.
