Reader's view: Paulucci lived a life of community service

Duluth News Tribune

November 30, 2011

By: U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Duluth News Tribune

My favorite memory of Jeno Paulucci was my very first one.

I was a college intern for then-Vice President Walter Mondale, and I shared an office with two other interns, Tom Nides of Duluth and Steve Befera from the Range. While my job was to do the furniture inventory of all the vice president’s furniture, Tom and Steve appeared to be working full-time on the Duluth foghorn issue.

The big advocate? Jeno Paulucci.

He would call every day: “When is the vice president going to get that foghorn back to Duluth?” “Does he know I’m calling?”

It was just one example of a lifetime of community service. He cared about his town, and he cared about his people. We will miss him.
