Scoping Sessions

Scoping meetings are scheduled in conjunction with the OCS Oil and Gas Lease process and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to determine the scope of the EIS and identify the significant issues, alternatives, and potential mitigating measures to be addressed in the EIS. Comments are solicited/announced by publication in the Federal Register and can be submitted in a variety of ways before the established deadline. One of the ways to submit a comment is by attending a scoping meeting.

The scoping meeting format consists of members of the public registering at the beginning, asking questions of a BOEMRE representative, and making comments until the meeting is over. A BOEMRE representative will deliver a presentation about the EIS at the beginning of the meeting. The purpose of these meetings is to receive public input into the EIS process to insure that the EIS will be thorough and address all pertinent issue. Highly technical concerns and matters can be discussed with agency representatives at another time.
