Spanish Occupational Outlook Handbook Frequently Asked Questions

Will a print version of the Spanish language OOH be released?

No, the Spanish version will be available only on line.

Which occupations are featured in the Spanish language version?

See a complete list of occupations selected for translation by clicking on this link: http://www.bls.gov/es/ooh/faq4_eng_table.htm

Why were these particular occupations selected to be translated?

BLS selected occupations that were representative in terms of type of occupation (professional, service, administrative, etc.), median wages, and education or training levels. We also selected occupational profiles that we know get heavy web traffic.

Will all occupational profiles eventually be translated into Spanish?

That depends, in part, on how much our customers use the translated versions. BLS will consider the demand for Spanish language occupational profiles, as well as the availability of BLS resources.

Why is BLS translating this information into Spanish?

Many Spanish-speaking customers have learned or are learning English, but absorb important information more easily by reading in their native language. The career information in the OOH can assist all individuals in the labor force in becoming better trained and educated, and generally more productive contributors to the Nation’s economy.

Are BLS subject matter experts available to respond to Spanish language inquiries about the Occupational Outlook Handbook?

Staff is not available to respond to Spanish language inquiries. The BLS Employment Projections program has prioritized the Spanish translation of Handbook profiles; however, available resources do not permit the provision of Spanish language subject matter support. BLS staff in the Employment Projections program is available to respond to your English language inquiries.
