Laser light from the high-spectral resolution lidar casts a green glow on the components inside the instrument's enclosure. The advanced HSRL uses specifically optimized detection methods to measure aerosol extinction, backscatter, and depolarization. As of March 2011, this system is now operating at the ARM site in Barrow, Alaska, thanks to the Recovery Act.
