    Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett (center) presented bonus checks to a team of Department of Transportation (MCDOT) employees who developed and implemented an idea that is saving the County about $16,000 a year.  The team is the first to receive the bonus under the County’s Rewarding Excellence Program that encourages front line employees to identify and develop cost effective processes.  Pictured are team members, Joe Adler, director, Office of Human Resources (OHR); Art Holmes, director, MCDOT; Al Roshdieh, deputy director MCDOT; Emil Wolanin, Traffic Engineering division chief; Kaye Beckley, OHR Business Operations and Performance Division manager and Melissa Boone-Miller, OHR Rewarding Excellence coordinator.

    Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett will hold a “virtual” Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, September 19 from 1 to 2 p.m. County residents will be able to talk with the County Executive and ask questions through the County’s website.

  • Photos: Leggett Congratulates Two of Montgomery County’s 2012 Olympians

    At a reception in Rockville, Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett congratulated two of Montgomery County’s 2012 Olympians.  Katie Ledecky, Gold Medal winner in the 800-meter freestyle swimming event and Scott Parsons, three-time Olympian in the men’s slalom kayak event attended the reception.  Montgomery County was represented by five athletes who competed in the 2012 London Games.  Julie Zetlin (rhythmic gymnastics), Caroline Queen (women’s slalom kayak) and David Banks (rowing) were unable to attend the reception.  In his remarks, Leggett noted, “That each of you made it to this level in your respective sports is indeed a major accomplishment and something you will always treasure.”

  • Photo: Leggett Signs Agreement With Montgomery County Volunteer Fire-Rescue Association

    As personnel from Rockville Fire Station #3 look on, Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett (second from left) and Montgomery County Volunteer Fire-Rescue Association President Marcine Goodloe (second from right) sign an agreement that will boost communication, promote further cooperation and enhance the volunteer contribution to the County’s combined volunteer and career emergency fire and rescue service.  Also pictured are Fire Chief Richard Bowers (far left) and Montgomery County Volunteer Fire-Rescue Association Executive Director Eric Bernard (far right). In a joint statement, Goodloe stated that the association does not support a referendum on the Emergency Medical Transportation Insurance Reimbursement Act passed by the Council in May.

  • Norbeck Meadows ParkMontgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett (far right) recently joined M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks, the Greater Olney Civic Association (GOCA) and the Norbeck Meadows Community Association to dedicate a playground at the Norbeck Meadows Park in memory of the late Ron Berger, a civic activist who was dedicated to serving his neighborhood and the entire Olney community. His work on the 1980 and 2005 Olney Master Plan helped shape Olney to what it is today. Unveiling the sign are Berger’s wife, Harriet Berger (left), and Mary Bradford, Director, M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks.

    Montgomery County’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Committee is hosting auditions for performers for the 2013 birthday celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Music Center at Strathmore. Auditions will be held on Friday, September 14. For more information, see flyer (pdf).
