Visiting Our Nation's CapitolLet us help plan your visit to Washington, D.C. Most of these attractions offer public tours but for those offering Congressional tours, you wil find a tour request form at the bottom of this page. For more travel ideas, vist the city's tourism page or recreation.gov.
The U.S. Capitol: Tours run every weekday at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and last 45 minutes to one hour. If the Senate is in session, tours include passes to watch Senate proceedings. Washington Monument: Tours run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the last tour beginning before 4:45 p.m. The Washington Monument Lodge, located along 15th Street, opens at 8:30 a.m. to distribute free, same-day, timed tickets on a first-come, first-serve basis. Visitors can also reserve advance tour tickets for the Monument here (fee of $1.50 fee per ticket). The White House: Tour requests must be submitted at least 4 to 6 months in advance but there is no guarantee that a request will lead to a tour. The White House requires security information to be submitted at the same time as your tour request. Please find the security form below and instructions for filling out the form here. Tours are self-guided. Click here for more information. On September 4, 2009, President Obama announced that White House visitor logs will be made public 90 - 120 days after the date of visit. If you take a tour, your full name and visit date will be released. Your date of birth, Social Security number and other information will not be released. The Pentagon: Free, guided tours run Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., except for weekends and federal holidays. All tours of the Pentagon are available by reservation only. The Mint: Free, self-guided tours run Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There are no tours on federal holidays and tours are subject to cancellation if the national security alert status changes. The Smithsonian: Free admission. Open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm, except the Castle which opens at 9:00 a.m., National Museum of African Art which closes at 5:30 p.m., and the Air and Space and American History museums which close at 6:00 p.m. Extended summer hours are determined annually. Kennedy Center: Tours run at 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and last approximately one hour. The 4:30 p.m. tour concludes near the Millennium Stage, the site of a free performance weekdays at 6 p.m. Performances include movies, poetry, short plays and other live art.
Holocaust Museum: The Holocaust Museum is open 10:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. everyday except for Yom Kippur and Christmas day. All exhibitions and memorials are free; however, the permanent exhibition requires a timed entry pass. You can acquire a pass from tickets.com or (800) 400-9373. Groups of 10 or larger can reserve a group entry time through the scheduling office. To book tours of the U.S. Capitol Building, White House, Supreme Court, and/or Bureau of Engraving and Printing, please fill out the Tour Request Form and email it to Senator Lautenberg's Tour Coordinator, Zach Amittay.
