Media Advisory Regarding FY97 Funding for the Agency
for Health Care Policy and Research
Statement Date: Friday, June 14, 1996
Note to Editors: The following statement should be attributed
to Clifton Gaus, Sc.D.,
administrator of the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research
(AHCPR).
Statement
"Yesterday was a turning point in the budget debate over the
Agency for Health Care Policy and
Research. Prompted by a strong show of broad-based support from
the health care industry, the
House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human
Services, and Education last
night restored $19 million it had cut from AHCPR's budget earlier
in the day.
The Subcommittee's funding level for the Agency now stands at
$125 million, the full amount of
the Chairman's mark. This action on the part of the Subcommittee
clearly demonstrates the
recognition of AHCPR's contribution to improving the quality and
value of the health care
system."
