  • Arlington Bridge Closure Sunday September 16th

    Arlington Memorial Bridge will be closed on Sunday, September 16, 2012 from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for the Air Force Navy Half Marathon. Memorial Circle will remain open.

  • Spout Run Lane Closures for Rock Stabilization from Sept. 10 – December.

    The left northbound lane of the parkway near Spout Run will be closed for construction. This lane includes part of the entrance from the Key Bridge and the exit to Spout Run Parkway. Drivers will be able to exit to Spout Run Parkway from the middle lane. More »

United States Marine Corps War Memorial

The United States Marine Corps War Memorial stands as a symbol of this grateful nation's esteem for the honored dead of the U.S. Marine Corps. While the statue depicts one of the most famous incidents of World War II, the memorial is dedicated to all Marines who have given their lives in the defense of the United States since 1775.

Sunset Parades

Tuesday evening during the summer, the Marines host Sunset Parades on the Parade Deck of the Memorial. During the one hour performance, the U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps presents music from "the Commandant's Own" and the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon showcases precision drills. The Sunset Parade is open to the public at no charge.

Visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, strollers, and picnics. Driving access and parking for the Memorial will be closed off starting several hours before each parade. Parking is available at Arlington National Cemetery for a small fee. A shuttle will run from the Arlington National Cemetery Visitor Center from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and return 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Directions

The U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial and Netherlands Carillon are in Virginia along the northern edge of Arlington National Cemetery.

Driving from Rt. 110 South - As you enter Rt. 110 from Rosslyn, turn right on Marshall St.

Driving from U.S. 50 East - Take the exit for Rosslyn and the Key Bridge. Turn right onto Meade St. at the top of the ramp. Turn left on Marshall St. Follow the signs for the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial.

Driving from U.S. 50 West (Washington, D.C.) - After crossing into Virginia on the Roosevelt Bridge, Take the exit for Rosslyn and the Key Bridge. Turn left onto Meade St. at the top of the ramp. Turn left on Marshall St. Follow the signs for the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial.

Metro - The Memorial is a 10-15 minute walk from the Rosslyn and Arlington National Cemetery train stations.

Facilities

There are portable toilets in between the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial and the Netherlands Carillon. Water fountains are located near the parking lot. Trash cans are also located near the parking lot. The closet place to get food is a 5 minute walk to Rosslyn. There are no food concessions at the Memorial. Rules and

Regulations

For parkwide rules, please view the Park Compendium. Rules regarding the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial include:

  • Removing or damaging natural or cultural resources is prohibited
  • Bicycles are prohibited on the Memorial Plaza
  • Ball playing, kite flying, and other recreational activities are not permitted on the Memorial grounds, including the surrounding fields
  • Pets must be on a least no longer than 6 feet at all times
  • Commercial and organized group activities at the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial require a permit obtained from the National Park Service
