Rosebud Man Pleads Guilty to Felon in Possession of a Firearm

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Wayne Besherse, age 48, of Rosebud, appeared before United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange on May 9, 2012, and pled guilty to Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years' imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both.

On June 15, 1982, Besherse was convicted of a felony in Washington State. On July 19, 2011, Besherse possessed a firearm at his residence in Todd County, South Dakota.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tim Maher. A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for July 30, 2012. The defendant was released on bond pending sentencing.
