Kyle Man Guilty of Possessing Unregistered Firearm

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Angel Vasquez, age 24, of Kyle, appeared before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on March 2, 2012, and pled guilty to a charge of Possession of an Unregistered Firearm. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years’ imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine.

In October 2011, near Pine Ridge, Vasquez knowingly possessed a Mossberg, 12–gauge weapon made from a shotgun that was not registered to him. The investigation was conducted by the Oglala Sioux Tribe–Department of Public Safety and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for June 15, 2012. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing.
