Cape Girardeau Man Pleads Guilty to Unlawful Possession of a Firearm

The United States Attorney’s Office announced today that a Cape Girardeau, Missouri man pled guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm.

CALEB EDWARD SMITH, age 23, pled guilty to one felony count of Being Previously Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He appeared before United States District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh, Jr.

In December of 2010, Smith rented a room from a Perryville, Missouri police officer in an apartment building located on North Ellis street in Cape Girardeau. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives obtained a search warrant for Smith’s room and seized two .308 caliber rifles. Smith now faces a maximum punishment of 10 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.

Sentencing has been set for May 14, 2012.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Keith D. Sorrell is handling the prosecution for the Government.
