Armed Career Criminal Sentenced to Fifteen Years in Prison for Illegal Possession of Firearm
ALBUQUERQUE – Earlier today, a federal judge sentenced Larry Pam, 35, of Albuquerque, to a 180-month term of imprisonment for being a armed career criminal in possession of a firearm. He will be on supervised release for three years after completing his prison sentence.
Pam was arrested on May 26, 2011 based on an indictment alleging that he unlawfully possessed a firearm on February 28, 2011 in Bernalillo county. Pam was prohibited from possessing firearms because he previously had been convicted of shooting at a dwelling or occupied building; shooting at or from a motor vehicle and tampering with evidence; and aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon in the Second Judicial District Court for the State of New Mexico. Pam entered a guilty plea to the indictment on September 9, 2011.
According to court records, on February 28, 2011, an officer of the Albuquerque Police Department who was driving an unmarked police vehicle responded to a call reporting that a man was aiming a shotgun at two men in a neighborhood in southeast Albuquerque. When he arrived in the neighborhood, the officer observed Pam and two other individuals get into a vehicle and drive away at a high rate of speed. The officer followed the vehicle until it stopped, and observed Pam exit the vehicle with a black shotgun up against his side. Pam was arrested shortly thereafter.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales said that the case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Albuquerque Police Department, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy Pena.
