    I strongly condemn the violence in Libya and Egypt and am saddened by the deaths of Ambassador Stevens and three Americans. We praise their service and sacrifice as they promoted American values abroad.

    I had the opportunity to visit Libya one month before Ambassador Stevens arrived and thank all of our diplomatic corp. for their incredible service.

    Today is also a day to pay tribute to those who continue to place their lives on the line to defend our country. I took time to join the USO in putting together care packages for our troops.

    Today I had the opportunity to tour and ride on the shortline Twin Cities & Western Railroad as well as tour a local Lyman Lumber facility which relies on the railroad to ship its products around the country. It was a great day spending time with employees of both the railroad and Lyman Lumber.

    Big attendance numbers, a couple of stabbings and a few ride hiccups marked the 2012 Minnesota State Fair, which wrapped up Monday, Sept. 3 in Falcon Heights.

    Just spoke at the grand opening of the new care facility for the Minneapolis Veterans Home. The ceremony celebrates the completion and opening of the adult day center and the new building 19 skilled nursing facility. It will provide important care for veterans in our community.
