RALEIGH, N.C. -- After Hurricane Irene struck last August, thousands of families were left temporarily homeless. Most have been able to repair and return to their homes, but for some, housing challenges remain.

March 1, 2012 - News Release

RALEIGH, N.C. -- In the six months since Hurricane Irene drenched the Tar Heel state, survivors and communities have received more than $160 million in state and federal disaster assistance. The work continues to help families and communities recover and rebuild.

December 2, 2011 - News Release

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Hurricane Irene survivors with questions about flood insurance claims have until Dec. 9, 2011 to call a toll-free hotline. The Hurricane Irene Flood Insurance Claims Hotline will be open from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 3, and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, through Friday, Dec. 9. The hotline number is 855-336-2002.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
