NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Sometimes, things happen that a family doesn’t expect. That’s why it’s important for Mom and Dad to get ready for any emergency. But kids shouldn’t feel left out – they can help, too! The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has a great website, FEMA Ready Kids, that parents and children can use to prepare for disasters and other kinds of surprises. September is National Preparedness Month.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Individuals and families recovering from the severe storms and flooding in Tennessee Aug. 17 can access a number of local and state resources to help put them on the road to recovery. Residents who need immediate help can call United Way’s Tennessee 2-1-1. This is a referral service designed to connect Tennesseans with local recovery agencies. The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There are several ways to access Tennessee 2-1-1:

Public Assistance DefinitionsPublic Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
