PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The catastrophic winter storms that inundated Virginia in December and February left the Commonwealth blanketed with record and near record snow amounts. The result was two presidential disaster declarations which, as of September 30, has resulted in federal grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) totaling $28,459,094.47
RICHMOND, VA. -- The Virginia Department of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced Page County is designated eligible for Public Assistance for the February 5-11, 2010, severe winter storms and snowstorms.
Following is a summary of key federal disaster aid programs that can be made available as needed and warranted under President Obama’s major disaster declaration issued for the Commonwealth of Virginia: Assistance for the State and Affected Local Governments Can Include as Required:

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved
Public Assistance DefinitionsPublic Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
