ATLANTA, Ga. -- For those who still might be wondering whether a flood insurance policy is worth the money, consider this: If you live in a high-risk flood area you could be eligible for additional money to help recover. The extra recovery money is known as Increased Cost of Compliance, or ICC. This provision is automatically available as part of most National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policies.
ATLANTA, Ga. -- Individuals and businesses damaged by the September floods are urged to stay in touch with disaster agencies. Households that registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) by the Nov. 23 deadline can ask questions about the status of their case and update changes in address and phone numbers by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY 800-462-7585. Phone lines are open every day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET.
ATLANTA, Ga. -- Disaster recovery officials urge recipients of federal grants to keep receipts and other documentation for at least three years as proof the funds were spent as intended. More than $53.2 million in disaster recovery grants was distributed by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) following the September storms and floods.
