    • Reportedly, Sen. Orrin Hatch and Rep. Dave Camp plan to introduce joint resolutions to prevent the administration from offering states more flexibility in the cash-assistance program that was part of a 1996 welfare overhaul. Federal officials say that they are responding to requests from governors, including Republicans, to have more flexibility so they can run more effective programs. Rep. Reed, will you disavow these overly partisan resolutions?

  2. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those killed while serving our country at the consulate in Libya. There is no justification for attacking our embassies and consulates overseas.
  3. Millions of Americans will pause today as we solemnly recall September 11. We will never forget the bravery and selfless sacrifice that occurred both on that day and in the days that immediately followed. We must always honor all of the civilians, emergency responders and those in our military who fell the day of those horrific attacks and in the years which have passed since then. As we do so, we might also reflect upon our American way of life; our democracy which stands for freedom and our firm belief that people can govern themselves through free exchange of ideas and respect for one another. We do not bend to those who rule by repression, violence and fear, and that will never change.
  4. Glad to support and see the House pass a bill tonight that will require a study of community-based flood insurance programs. With the new FEMA standards and the related flood map issues, we must look at alternatives to the individual flood insurance mandate and this could be something that will save home owners and municipalities thousands of dollars. I hope the Senate will pass this and look forward to the study results.
  5. Discussing the duplicative and costly approval process. Replacing existing bridges and roads can be done in a more timely manner at a lower cost to taxpayers.

  6. With Ontario County Public Works Commissioner Bill Wright. We worked to be sure his money and time-saving suggestions to streamline the approval process were included in MAP-21.
