CAMP DOUGLAS, Wis. -- In late September, the fierce storms that struck Clark County caused enough destruction to warrant a federal disaster declaration – and lent urgency to the county’s efforts to reduce damage from future storms.

CAMP DOUGLAS, Wis. -- Extreme cold and harsh winter weather can dramatically increase the daily hardships and day-to-day survival challenges for Wisconsin’s elderly and those with physical, medical, sensory or cognitive disabilities. With temperatures dropping and snowflakes beginning to fall, Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) say that now is the time to take a few easy steps to prepare for emergencies. CAMP DOUGLAS, Wis. -- The holiday season is an especially critical time to consider fire safety. The number of cooking fires routinely starts to increase around Thanksgiving and peak in December and are the leading cause of house fires, according to the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA). The agency says heating fires occur more often in the winter months when the use of central heating systems, portable heaters, and fireplaces is most common.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards
