PIERRE, S.D. -- Moist, fibrous materials and stagnant water provide the ideal climate for mold growth. However, according to disaster response officials, the risk of illnesses associated with exposure to mold following flooding can be reduced. Large numbers of airborne mold spores can trigger allergic reactions, asthma episodes, infections and other respiratory problems. Exposure to high spore levels also can cause development of an allergy to mold, creating long-term problems.
PIERRE, S.D. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the state of South Dakota have invited incident commanders from five tribes included in the winter storms public assistance declarations to participate in the Unified Command System at the Joint Field Office in Pierre from March 22-26.
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Craig Fugate today announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for South Dakota to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by a severe winter storm during the period of January 20-26, 2010.

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards
