NEW ORLEANS – The Federal Emergency Management Agency recently announced more than $1 million in funding to the state of Louisiana to improve the Golden Meadow floodwall in Lafourche Parish.

February 18, 2011 - News Release

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- As per the State of Louisiana request, the U.S. Housing and Urban Development and Federal Emergency Management Agency granted and announced today an additional six months extension to the Disaster Housing Assistance Program-Ike (DHAP-Ike and Gustav), giving families in Louisiana who were displaced by Hurricanes Ike and Gustav through September 30, 2011 to transition to permanent housing solutions.

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Federal Emergency Management Agency recently announced more than $1.4 million in additional public assistance funding to Terrebonne Parish for repairs to Island Road. Island Road serves as the only roadway within Terrebonne connecting Isle de Jean Charles, a Native American community, to mainland Louisiana. The asphalt road, measuring 2.6 miles long and 20 feet wide, was heavily damaged during Hurricane Ike after being battered by strong waves and an eight-foot storm surge.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
