More than 945,000 Utahns participated in our drop, cover and hold on drill on April 17! That means that 33 percent of the state's population was involved. As the weather heats up and the grasses dry out, Utahns need to prepare for fire season. The U.S. Fire Administration reminds us to practice safe habits when camping, hunting and target shooting. Daily fire information is posted at UtahFireInfo.gov and on Twitter @UtahWildfire.
Safety tips include the following:
- Create a safety zone around your home.
- Plan several escape routes from your home by vehicle and on foot.
- If wildfire threatens and asked to evacuate, do so immediately.
- Teach children about fire safety.
