Community-Based Organizations

Service-learning in community-based organizations takes two primary forms. The community-based organization can serve as the setting of service-learning itself, where learning objectives may include, for example, career readiness, character, or leadership. Alternatively, community-based organizations can serve as the partner to K-12 or higher education programs focused on academic learning objectives. The kinds of community-based organizations engaging in service-learning are also varied and can include, social service and other non-profit providers, community-based youth development organizations, after-school programs, and faith-based organizations. Following are some of our most relevant resources on the topic of service-learning in the CBO setting.
