February 16, 2012 - News Release

Windsor, Conn. -- To help you meet the costs of complying with local floodplain management requirements, the National Flood Insurance Program includes Increased Cost of Compliance (ICC) coverage in all new and renewed Standard Flood Insurance Policies. If your home or business is located in a special flood hazard area and becomes substantially damaged by any peril, you may be required to meet certain building requirements designed to reduce future flood damage when you rebuild or repair.

February 14, 2012 - News Release

Windsor, Conn. -- The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) provides grants to States and local governments to implement long-term hazard mitigation measures after a major disaster declaration.  Authorized under Section 404 of the Stafford Act and administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, HMGP was created to reduce the loss of life and property due to natural disasters.  The program enables mitigation measures to be implemented during the immediate recovery from a disaster and is activated when the president declares a disaster.

Windsor, Conn. -- While flood insurance is not mandatory for homeowners outside of a high-risk area, anyone can be financially vulnerable to floods. People outside of high-risk areas file more than 25% of NFIP claims and receive one-third of disaster assistance for flooding. Residential and commercial property owners who are not located in high-risk areas should ask their agents if they are eligible for the Preferred Risk Policy, which provides affordable flood insurance protection, starting as low as $129 a year. Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards
