Windsor, Conn. -- To help you meet the costs of complying with local floodplain management requirements, the National Flood Insurance Program includes Increased Cost of Compliance (ICC) coverage in all new and renewed Standard Flood Insurance Policies. If your home or business is located in a special flood hazard area and becomes substantially damaged by any peril, you may be required to meet certain building requirements designed to reduce future flood damage when you rebuild or repair.
Windsor, Conn. -- The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) provides grants to States and local governments to implement long-term hazard mitigation measures after a major disaster declaration. Authorized under Section 404 of the Stafford Act and administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, HMGP was created to reduce the loss of life and property due to natural disasters. The program enables mitigation measures to be implemented during the immediate recovery from a disaster and is activated when the president declares a disaster.

People outside of high-risk areas file more than 25% of NFIP claims and receive one-third of disaster assistance for flooding.
