Musician 1st Class Brandon Z. Almagro,
Trumpet
Musician 1st Class Brandon Almagro, a native of New Berlin, Wis., joined the Navy Band in July 2005. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee in 2002 and a Master of Music from the University of Maryland in 2004. His teachers include Dennis Najoom, Chris Gekker, and Steven Hendrickson. Almagro has performed with the Washington Symphonic Brass, the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, and the McLean Orchestra. He has also performed nationally with Keith Brion’s New Sousa Band and The O’Jays. In addition to the Navy Band, Almagro is principal trumpet with the Inscape Chamber Orchestra, and he is an adjunct faculty member at Washington Adventist University.
As well as his performance duties, Almagro also serves as a member of the Navy Band Brass Quintet, and collaterally as a Concert Band stage crew chief, managing equipment loading and stage set-up at concerts, and he is an auditions manager for the Navy Band. He has been featured in the National Geographic book, Where Valor Rests: Arlington National Cemetery, and performed taps live on PBS at the 2009 National Memorial Day Concert on the National Mall.
