GOV. BARBOUR APPOINTS DOLEAC TO CHANCERY COURT
Gov. Haley Barbour today announced the appointment of attorney M. Ronald Doleac of Hattiesburg as Chancellor of the 10th Chancery Court District, Place 4. Doleac replaces Chancellor Gene Fair, whom Gov. Barbour recently appointed to the Mississippi Court of Appeals. read more.

MISSISSIPPI MUST REPAY FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IN MEDICAID LEGAL SETTLEMENT
Gov. Haley Barbour today said the state will have to repay the federal government $17 million from a recent legal settlement with pharmaceutical companies. Gov. Barbour had warned legislators against counting on the settlement as a windfall for the state budget. read more.

PERS STUDY COMMISSION RELEASES RECOMMENDATIONS FOR STRENGTHENING PENSION FUND
The Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) Study Commission released its report today recommending several investment, management and policy changes to protect the long-term solvency of the state’s public pension fund.  The report also includes a legal analysis of benefit modifications. read more.

Gov. Haley Barbour today announced the appointment of Chancellor Gene Fair of Hattiesburg as a justice on the Mississippi Court of Appeals. Fair replaces Justice William Myers, who will retire from the bench on Dec. 31. read more.

Gov. Haley Barbour today ordered State flags lowered to half-staff Wednesday in honor of the more than 2,400 Americans killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.  The date is recognized each year as "National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day." read more.

All U.S. and State flags at state-owned buildings will be flown at half staff in remembrance of former Gov. William Waller Sr., starting today.  Flags will be flown at half staff through Dec. 3.  Former Gov. Waller will lie in state from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at the New Capitol in downtown Jackson. read more.

NEW STATE CAR TAG UNVEILED ON FIRST MISSISSIPPI-MADE TOYOTA COROLLA
Mississippi's musical heritage is highlighted on the state's new car tag design, which was revealed today by Gov. Haley Barbour and Toyota president and CEO Akio Toyoda. The men attached the new license plate, featuring B.B. King's renowned guitar "Lucille," to the first official Mississippi-made Toyota Corolla shortly after it rolled off the assembly line at an event marking the start of production at Toyota's plant in Blue Springs. read more.

GOV. BARBOUR DECLARES TODAY TOYOTA ARBOR DAY
Gov. Haley Barbour declared today as Toyota Arbor Day to celebrate the opening of the car manufacturer's Blue Springs plant and its commitment to the environment and Mississippi. To celebrate Toyota Arbor Day, public school districts, private schools and religious schools will be given tree seedlings in January to distribute to their students for the planting season. read more.

GOV. BARBOUR CELEBRATES AS FIRST MISSISSIPPI-MADE TOYOTA COROLLA ROLLS OFF LINE
Gov. Haley Barbour, Toyota Motor Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Akio Toyoda and other Toyota, state and local officials gathered today at the Blue Springs plant to celebrate the start of production of the Corolla. Approximately 1,500 workers are currently employed at the plant, which is known as Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Mississippi (TMMMS).  Once production is fully underway, Toyota's Blue Springs facility will employ 2,000 people, with another 2,000 employed in supplier facilities in the state. read more.
