June 8, 2009 - News Release

CLINTON, Miss. -- Governor Haley Barbour's request for Jefferson Davis County to be added to the Federal Disaster Declaration for damage caused by severe weather in March was granted today by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.  Local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations in Jefferson Davis County are now eligible to apply for assistance from FEMA's Public Assistance Program.

June 1, 2009 - News Release

CLINTON, Miss. -- Local governments, tribal governments and nonprofit agencies that suffered damage or loss as a result of March storms in 10 counties have until June 12 to apply for funding to help them recover.  The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency are jointly providing reimbursement funding to eligible agencies.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for Mississippi to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms, flooding, and tornadoes during the period of March 25-28, 2009.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
