Jennifer Friedman, Director of Public Affairs

Jennifer Friedman is Director of Public Affairs for the Department of Commerce. As Director of Public Affairs, she oversees communications for the Secretary of Commerce, Department leadership, and the Department of Commerce bureaus and agencies.

Before joining the Department of Commerce, Friedman served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In this role, she developed, implemented and oversaw strategic communications, policy rollouts and public initiatives for DHS, the Secretary of Homeland Security, Department leadership and the Department’s 18 components.



Previously, Friedman served as Vice President and Director of Communications for Albright Stonebridge Group (ASG), a global strategy firm. In that role, she managed strategic communications and served as spokesperson for former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, the firm’s principals and clients, and Albright Capital Management, an affiliated investment advisory firm. In this capacity, she also served as traveling Chief of Staff to former Secretary Albright.

Friedman also served as Director of State Communications for the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids in Washington, D.C., where she served as spokeswoman and ran campaign and media strategy for legislative battles, ballot initiatives and electoral campaigns across the U.S. Earlier, she led the communications department at the Violence Policy Center, a non-profit organization that works to reduce firearm violence. She earned her B.A. in Political Science, summa cum laude, from The George Washington University.
