Project Delta, Detachment B-52, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), the most decorated single unit in the Vietnam War, had a memorial stone dedicated in their honor and placed in the Memorial Plaza at the USASOC headquarters.

On October 25, 2008 the American Freedom Foundation presented the 5th Annual American Freedom Festival at the Patriot Center at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. American Freedom Foundation co-founder, Sergeant Major of the Army (retired) Jack L. Tilley hosted the event, which pays tribute to the men and women of AmericaAca,!a,,cs Armed Forces. More than 8,000 enthusiastic music fans packed the Patriot Center to hear country music stars Alan Jackson, Trace Adkins and James Otto. The entire event was broadcast to over 350 military bases in over 170 countries around the world on The Pentagon Channel. Lieutenant General Robert Wilson, Brigadier General Gary Cheek and Rear Admiral Matt Nathan were asked to come on stage to accept a contribution from the American Freedom Foundation to Giftstoarmy.army.mil in the amount of $100,000! It has been the mission of the foundation to help our wounded warriors and their families in as direct a way as possible. Giftstoarmy.army.mil will direct this contribution to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Naval Medical Center San Diego, Brooke Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital to help provide care to our wounded heroes. A hush came over the audience as Lieutenant General Wilson gave his moving remarks about our military and their families and what they meant to all of us.

The Presidio's Army Community Service and Residential Communities Initiative partnered with Rebuilding Together, Clark/Pinnacle, the Monterey County Veterans Office, and the commissary. Valerie Woods, Employment/Volunteer Program Manager for the Army Community Service at the Presidio of Monterey, organized the program this year and coordinated the efforts of the various agencies involved. Woods said about the process, "We identified veterans who needed help with home or yard maintenance in the communities of Seaside and Marina, California. They were: 1) an 82-year-old Army veteran with dementia who needed the front and back yard cleaned up and weeded - we filled a 30-foot trash bin; 2) a wheelchair-bound, 91-year-old veteran of the Women's Army Corp, also a widow of career Army veteran, wanted her hallway painted. She also wants her living room carpet cleaned, and we will be going back to do this with a couple more volunteers in two days; 3) a 96-year-old Navy veteran and his 93-year-old wife who needed to have the front yard weeded and cleaned up; 4) an Army veteran in his 80's who needed general yard work, clean-up, trimming of bushes. 35 volunteers worked four hours at this site. Everyone on the team did what each does best and contributed to make this event a success, especially the 110 volunteers from the military community and the military units at the Presidio of Monterey."

The third day of the conference, which is focused on civilian employee development and training, covers topics such as the Civilian Education System, the Human Capital Lifecycle Strategy, AKO Portal training opportunities, and other training requirements.

When international allies are looking to supply their forces with top of the line equipment, they turn to those who have the equipment regarded by many as the best in the world. They buy American. U.S. Army Security Assistance Command oversees those foreign military sales from beginning to end. Aca,!A"You see how respected the U.S. military is,Aca,!A? Col. Catherine Lacina, USASAC chief of staff, said. Aca,!A"These countries really want to be able to interoperate with us. They want the same equipment that we have. We really do lead the world, I think, in a lot of the technology and the quality of equipment we provide.Aca,!A? USASAC has been a major subordinate of Army Materiel Command since the mid-1970s. In fact, they are in the process of moving from Fort Belvoir, Va., to Redstone alongside AMC as part of base realignment and closure. Currently they are located next door to AMC in a temporary location off Redstone Road. They will still be next door when AMC moves to their permanent facility. USASACAca,!a,,cs new building is being constructed as part of the new AMC complex on Martin Road.
