August 28, 2008 - News Release

POST FALLS, Idaho -- On July 31, 2008, President Bush declared a major disaster for Idaho, focused on helping local government and tribal entities and certain nonprofit organizations in two counties recover from damages caused by flooding between May 15 and June 9, 2008. The counties named in the declaration to receive help are Kootenai and Shoshone.

August 22, 2008 - News Release

Post Falls, Idaho -- Shoshone County has been awarded a Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) Planning Grant for $66,633. The award was presented by Dave Jackson, Hazard Mitigation Officer with the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security (BHS) to Shoshone County officials on Wednesday, August 20. The grant covers the costs of preparing a Mitigation Plan for the county. The PDM program is administered by BHS and provides funding on a cost-share basis. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provides 75 percent of the funds, and the local jurisdiction provides 25 percent.

August 19, 2008 - News Release

POST FALLS, Idaho -- Disasters threaten more than homes. Bridges, highways, public buildings, parks and water treatment plants can be damaged or destroyed. Tons of debris can be left to be removed; communications and emergency services can be disrupted.

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
