The Energy Science and Technology Software Center (ESTSC) is the centralized software management facility for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). A component of the Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, the ESTSC licenses and distributes scientific and technical (S&T) software developed by DOE contractors, national laboratories, and other facilities. This S&T software is a form of scientific and technical information (STI) resulting from DOE-funded research and development (R&D). It represents the latest in Federal technology. The collection also contains selected S&T software from the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
Software packages in the collection can be used for a variety of applications. In many cases, the packages are available in multiple platforms, such as PC, workstation, or supercomputer, to allow the software to be used on different computers and operating systems. Software is available on CD-ROM and includes supporting documentation, either in paper or electronic format. An online searchable catalog is available.
Most software available from the ESTSC has unlimited availability; however, there may be instances when customers are referred to the submitting organization. Copyrighted software inquiries may be responded to by ESTSC staff or may be referred to the copyright holder.
Software packages are made available on an "as is" basis and contain the full documentation, executable code, and in most cases, the source code. ESTSC provides limited "operational" support, which includes telephone assistance concerning installation, media, or platform questions.
