1/30/12: Two Teenagers Arrested for Allegedly Plotting to Bomb Utah High School

The Intermountain West RCFL (IWRCFL) is supplying digital forensics expertise to investigators looking into a detailed plan allegedly hatched by Dallin Morgan, 18 and Joshua Hoggan, 16, to detonate a bomb during an assembly at Roy High School in Utah. School authorities were tipped off by another student who, according to press reports, received ominous sounding text messages from one of the suspects. Both Morgan and Hoggan attended the 1,500 student school and according to press reports, studied blueprints of the building's physical layout and security systems before devising the plan which ended with them commandeering a plane to escape.

The Roy Police Department is leading the investigation and has not yet stated what the pair's motive was, although one text allegedly sent by one suspect said they were seeking "revenge on the world," according to press reports. Click here to read a press release issued by Roy PD.

The FBI's Salt Lake City Division released the following statement in response to the investigation:

The FBI is aware of the ongoing investigation being conducted by the Roy Police Department, and the police department's request for assistance from the FBI's Regional Computer Forensics Lab in Salt Lake City, Utah. The RCFL stands ready to analyze evidence provided to the lab by the Roy Police Department.

Morgan and Hoggan were both arrested and Morgan was charged with possessing a weapon of mass destruction. The investigation is ongoing.
