Director of Administration and Management

The DA&M has three broad responsibilities: to advise the Secretary and DoD senior leaders team on organizational and management matters of institutional importance; oversee the Pentagon Reservation, headquarters of the U.S. Defense establishment and a highly visible symbol of U.S. military power, and Defense leased facilities in the National Capital Region (NCR), providing a broad range of administrative, logistical, facilities, and technology support at those facilities; and to secure and protect the people, facilities, and infrastructure of the Pentagon Reservation and Department of Defense (DoD) leased facilities in the NCR.  As the principal staff assistant and advisor to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense concerning organizational and administrative management matters, responsibilities include: developing and maintaining organizational charters and overseeing assigned programs such as DoD Committee Management, DoD Headquarters Management, Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) Historical Program, DoD Freedom of Information Act Program, the DoD Privacy Program, the DoD Civil Liberties program, the OSD Internal Management Control Program, and the OSD Networks/CIO.  Additionally, the DA&M performs management and oversight responsibilities for the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, a Defense Agency, and the Washington Headquarters Services, a DoD Field Activity, through which extensive support to the NCR organizations is provided.

The FY 2007 Director, Administration and Management (DA&M) Strategic Plan has been shaped by executive-level guidance contained in the National Security and Defense Strategies and, specifically, the 2006 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR), which is the most recent comprehensive review of the current status and future direction of the Department of Defense.
