MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Nearly $30 million in federal disaster assistance is funding the recovery efforts of individuals, businesses, nonprofit organizations, municipalities, and school districts in 21 Alabama counties hit hard by the severe storms, flooding, and intense winds of March 25 ? April 13. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) said today nearly $2 million has been granted to individuals and households, and that public assistance projects will total more than $26 million once completed.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Disaster assistance employees working the Montgomery, Alabama Joint Field Office recently concluded a food drive that collected enough to feed a family of four for more than eight months. "Our DAEs and state partners working in the JFO really came through for this great cause," said Federal Coordinating Officer Albie Lewis. At the end of a three-week collection period, non-perishable food items and cash -- the equivalent of 2,770 pounds of food -- had been donated by the approximately 150 employees working DR-1835, DR-1836, and/or DR-1842.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Alabama residents keeping an eye on the forecast for heavy rains and flooding should know that a flood insurance policy through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) offers their best protection against loss. Those who already have flood insurance policies are encouraged to check their policy each year, update as necessary, and make sure premiums remain paid in full.
