Man Sentenced for Gun Offense

DAVENPORT, IA – On February 10, 2012, Zachery Damon Clain, age 20, of Davenport, Iowa, was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment for being a prohibited person in possession of firearms, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. Chief United States District Judge James E. Gritzner also sentenced Clain to two years supervised release.

On January 25, 2011, Clain possessed and attempted to sell two stolen firearms to a confidential source who was working with law enforcement. The confidential source agreed to purchase one of the firearms, a Colt Trooper .357 caliber handgun, and paid Clain and a confederate $180 for the gun. Officers followed Clain after the transaction, conducted a traffic stop on his vehicle, and arrested him. Clain admitted to possessing the guns.

The case was investigated by the Davenport, Iowa, Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Iowa.
