Grace Kelly

Grace Kelly In 1973, Grace Kelly (1929-1982), the Princess of Monaco, sent invitations to Acting FBI Director L. Patrick Gray and Mrs. Gray requesting their presence at a celebrity gala and banquet in honor of the Catholic Office of Drug Education. Grace Kelly was honorary chairman of the event. Both the director and his wife declined because of prior commitments.

Sammy Davis, Jr

Samuel George “Sammy” Davis, Jr. (1925-1990) was a famous singer, actor, and entertainer. A civil rights proponent, he became the subject of a limited FBI domestic security investigation; he was also the target of two extortion attempts investigated by the FBI. There is also limited material on a newspaper’s allegation that Davis had been briefly kidnapped. These files span the years from 1961 to 1976.

Eleanor Roosevelt

Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962)—First Lady, author, activist, and politician—appeared in many FBI files due to her prominent public role. The file 62-62735 is not an investigative file, but a collection of information concerning Roosevelt between the years 1940 and 1961, consisting mainly of published items about her. It also includes public correspondence, items from other government agencies, and FBI documents that mention her.

Elvis Presley

Elvis Aaron Presley (1935-1977), rock-n-roll singer and movie actor, was not investigated by the FBI. His name, though, appears in many different FBI files. Presley was the target of many extortion attempts investigated by the FBI. Reactions to his music and stage presentation led concerned citizens to write the FBI suggesting that it investigate Presley; we did not. And there is correspondence regarding Presley’s interest in meeting Director J. Edgar Hoover. The documents in this release span the years 1956 to 1980.
