About this Center

Operated by the Rocky Mountain Minority Supplier Development Council (RMMSDC) the Denver MBDA Business Center facilitates greater access to the goods and services of minority-owned businesses for diverse corporate and government entities, thus fostering the development of lasting and mutually beneficial business relationships.

The Rocky Mountain MSDC supports the development of minority-owned business enterprises in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and New Mexico and further provides business education and certification assistance.

In FY2011, MBDA helped Colorado minority-owned businesses obtain four contracts totaling $9,647,141. MBDA assisted Colorado minority-owned businesses in creating 81 new jobs in FY2011. The MBDA Colorado Business Center was established mid-way through the fiscal year. Greater performance is expected for FY2012, which will represent a full performance cycle.

Helena Haynes-Carter, Project Director

Helena Haynes-CarterHelena Haynes-Carter currently serves as the director of the Minority Business Development Agency’s Colorado Business Center.  Ms. Haynes-Carter is a corporate strategist and development expert known for producing top tier results for Fortune-ranked companies and non-profit organizations by building national brands, expanding organizational systems, and leveraging untapped potential.

Helena’s vision and expertise in economic and business development, community and corporate relations plus social responsibility translated into superior financial results for non-profit, for-profit and government employers and clients. Some of the publications featuring Ms. Haynes-Carter’s accomplishments include ElectricPerspectives, Diversity/Careers Diversity Plus, Minority Business News, and Denver Women’s Magazine.Helena publically speaks and educates regarding organizational strategy, diversity, and sustainability.  She successfully facilitates sensitive conversations that catalyze positive public policy initiatives.

Ms. Haynes-Carter has served as the director of diversity and manager of supplier diversity for Xcel Energy, assistant vice president corporate relations at U.S. Bank and as a senior strategic marketing and program development manager for a top western region housing finance authority.  Previous professional experiences include working as a statistician for Standard & Poor’s and managing small business, human resource, and budget functions for a leading U.S. transit provider.

Helena earned degrees from the University of Colorado and Colorado State University.  Ms. Haynes-Carter currently serves as Denver Area Chapter president for the American Association of Blacks in Energy.  She serves on numerous boards, councils, and committees and actively maintains other affiliations where she serves in an advisory capacity.  Helena is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions.
