Patient Comments

See what our patients are saying! In September 2012, overall visit satisfaction for Kenner AHC was 94%. We continue to strive for 95% or greater. The comments come from APLSS, ICE, Facebook and Twitter feedback straight from our patients. Please continue to send in your comments and input!
Wilkerson Pediatric Clinic
Another great experience at Kenner, this time in the Pediatric Clinic. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door and the smiles kept coming. It started with a very professional Soldier, SGT Van Ausdall and then with the very caring nurse Mary Asher. When we thought it couldnt get any better in comes Dr. Elke Zsachabitz, she inspired trust the moment she walked in the room. My daughter was so relaxed and was able to open up and describe the purpose of our visit. Never once did we feel rushed, she made us feel extremely comfortable and took care of everything we came in for. Dr. Elke is a great of example of who we need taking care of our Warriors and their families. On our way out we received a hug from the clinic's OIC, Dr. West-Brown and we thanked her for the positive experience. Like a great boss she gave all the credit to her staff. Kenner family, we want to thank you for making us feel important and for taking care of our health care needs. You deserve to be recognized for your outstanding customer service and caring attitude!
Primary Care Clinic
I just wanted to pass on some positive comments about one of your physicians. Dr. Marie Huggins is one of the best physicians I have ever seen. She is timely, never makes you feel rushed, answers all your questions, never makes you feel that anything you are asking is a dumb question, and has great advice. She makes you feel comfortable (very very important!), remembers things about you and your family and asks about them. She is one of the few physicians I've seen, especially at military facilities, that really seem to take the time to get to know her patients. I know that is hard to do when the numbers are so high, but she makes an effort to go above and beyond. Most make you feel like they haven't even read your chart or know anything about you. She seems to really love her job and wants to be there, doing good work. My father was an OB/GYN and I used to work in his office during my summers long ago and she reminds me of how things used to be when you visited a physician. She has the same positive qualities people used to tell me about my father. She is top notch and I wanted to pass that along to any supervisors she may have. Her nurse is also excellent when I have made phone inquiries in the past. I cannot recall her nurse's name.
Laboratory Services
Wonderful treatment/blood draw (Ms. Fuller) to have music. I think a TV would be an even better distractor.
Primary Care Clinic
My last two visits in the Primary Care Clinic were nothing short of excellent. I was extremely impressed with the overall customer service focus and attention provided to me as a patient. I was treated promptly with a smile and a caring attitude. I would like to specifically thank a few individuals who went the extra mile, the front desk clerk Mrs. Wells, my nurse Linda Desjarlais and my provider, Dr. Bilinski. Each member of my team has consistently provided comprehensive, quality health care with a smile. Notice I said members of my team, thats I how felt, like they all understood my needs. I trust Kenner with all of my health care needs and I hope these individuals are recognized for their efforts in making my experience a positive one. Hats off to the leadership of Kenner for creating this positive health care enviornment.
Executive Health Services
Public Affairs Kenner Clinic Fort Lee Va appears to have set a trend of Outstanding service. The performance and dedication to ensuring that the highest level of care and ease of operation is something that I have grown a custom to when working with them. They have certainly made my life much easier. I truly appreciate all they have done for me in the past and always look forward to working with them in the future.
Executive Health Services
Today at 1220 I was instructed that two General Officers would be requiring FLU vaccinations. Unfortunately the vaccinations were needed 40 minutes later and in their personnel office. The Kenner Executive Health Services came through. This is not the first time they were able to assist me with a ridiculous short suspense or going above and beyond the normal customer services. There services are so very much appreciated and I feel that they are due some extra gratitude. Thank you MS Wade!
Pharmacy Services
Yesterday, I went to the pharmacy and Mrs. Tiffany Connolly at the front desk took very good care of me. She provided me and my family with excellent costumer service as well as the Pharmacy Technician, Mrs. Sharese Pugh and the KAHC Pharmacist, Mrs. Christine Wetherbee. All three ladies helped me take care of a situation I was having with my medicine. Thanks again for the great service i am very gradefull for that.
Troop Medical Clinic 1
This was my best TMC experience. I recieved great care and was treated like a real person. Ms Easley was amazing and helped keep me calm.
Orthopedic Clinic
Mr Burrus is attentive and thorough. he explains why he is ordering a test, why certain medicines will work for me and what the ultimate goal for my health care is. I trust him 100%.
Occupational Health Clinic
Mr. Pinkerton is efficient and very knowledgeable in the aspects of his field.
Department of Behavioral Health
Dr Schwabe is a very caring and committed mental health professional.
Department of Behavioral Health
Dr Brown cares very much about my mental health. I can see that he has genuine concern for the Soldiers. I thank God for him.

Additional Feedback

Constructive Patient Comments with Kenner Resolutions
Family Medicine Clinic
At the end of my appointment I was given a hand out and told, I should lose weight and it would help resolve my knee issue.  I have had issues with my knee when I weighted 120 pounds.  The provider was rude, even after I told him I eat healthy and not processed foods, his response was "well you can eat 2000 calories of lettuce a day, and it's still 20000 calories."  I do eat 2000 calories a day, because I breastfeed my daughet, and was told to consume 300-500 more calories a day to accommodate the breastfeeding. Before passing illogical judgements on patients this provider might want to get the full history before implying someone is FAT.

Kenner Response:  We are sorry about this negative interaction between you and your provider.  We are committed to having our providers be as sensitive as possible to their patients' concerns, while maintaining the frankness necessary to sustain a trusting, productive provider-patient relationship.

Women definitely need to maintain a healthy weight and diet after having a baby, especially if they are breastfeeding.  One issue of recent ntional focus is on recognition of overweight and obese. The most recent data publishied in the CDC (http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/overwt.htm) is scary.  Nearly 7 out of every 10 Americans over age 20 are overweight or obese (69.2%), definied as a Body Mass Index (BMI) over 25.  For an adult who is 5'9"tall, a weight of 169 pounds or more is in this category.  It is clear from the data, that Americans may not all take maintaining a healthy weight seriously, and we hope to help Kenner patients appreciate how important that it is to maintain overall health.

Thank you for your feedback!
Army Medical Clinics in General
This comment is directed to Army Medical Clinics in general.  When I go to my appointment for my medical issues, the problem doesn't get resolved.  they only do the bare minimal of treatment and that doesn't resolve the medical issue.  So, that means I continue to come back to the clinic to set the same results, more medication

Kenner Response:  We are sorry that you are less than satisfied with your care within Army Medicine.  Please keep in mind that occasionally a tough medical problem may require several visits to address while multiple issues may require more than one visit.  Resolution or the cure may not be possible nor necessarily be the goal.

Army Medicine and KAHC are excited to introduce the new initiative called the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH).  This model places a stronger emphasis on creating a health care team (provider, nurse, technician) that develops a relationship with each patient.  The goal is for patients to get to know their team, and to interact with the health care team regularly, which can also be by phone and secure messaging in addition to office visits.  We  want patients to actively participate in their health care, and for the health care team to meet all of a patient's needs.

Pharmacy Services
Recently my child was seen in the Wilkerson Pediatric Clinic for a routine exam.  My childs records are kept at Kenner and his PCM is a Kenner provider.  The provider ordered a prescription to be picked up at the Kenner Pharmacy.  When I tried to pick the prescription up, I was told I needed my child's ID card in order to verify eligibility.   I would like to know under what circumstances my child would not be eligible for the prescription.  My child's records are there at Kenner and is also enrolled in DEERS, yet in order for me to pick up the prescription I was made to fill out a promissary note and required to make yet another trip to the Pharmacy in the next thirty days to present my child's ID card.  This is a seemingly reasonable policy carried to the extreme.  I also did not see a policy notice posted anywhere informing of this requirement.
Kenner Response:  Kenner apologizes for your recent less than satisfying experience.  As you may know, it is DoD policy for the intended patient's ID card to be presented to Pharmacy for any prescription if the patient is 10 years old or older.  It is inconvenient, but it is DoD policy.  Kenner obviosly has not been explicit enough in our signage so that our beneficiaires can be more aware of this important policy.  The Kenner marketing staff will work with both the Pediatric Clinic and Pharmacy to have this information more available to patients and parents.  Please check refer to the Kenner website, under the Pharmacy page and it states:  the Kenner AHC Pharmacy does require the patient's ID Card in order to process a prescription/refill pick up.  A HIPAA violation would result if Pharmacy staff allowed the script to be filled and picked up without proper identification.  In the future, we recommend that beneficiaries picking up scripts for family members have a copy of the dependent's ID card (front and back), with them to preclude this from happening again.  All DEERS-registered beneficiaries 10 years of age and older require their own ID card (or copy of it) for their medications to be picked up.  Under 10 years of age, the parent or legal quardian beneficiairy can pick up the medication for the child.  Please see the link below for more information:  http://www.tricare.mil/mybenefit/ProfileFilter.do;jsessionid=PfJPbyQN1475279y23rH2BJCQq8FmZJknjp47ty8dMCgynkmgd21!316466488?puri=%2Fhome%2Foverview%2FEligibility%2FIDCards

Pharmacy Services
I received a defective inhaler from the Kenner pharmacy.  The pharmacy staff told me to contac the manufacturer for a replacement.  The manufacturer told me to contact the dispensing pharmacy.  What should I do?

Kenner Response:  I want to apologize for your less than optimal experience during your visit.  The staff member you spoke with should hav etaken back the defective units and given you new ones from a different lot.  We have a process in place to contact manufacturers and report such issues and have reviewed it with the pharmacy team.  Thank you for your feedback about your visit to the KAHC Pharmacy and your concerns about your inhalers.
