A seagull flies over the California Coastal National Monument which stretches along the entire coast of California and extends 12 miles into the Pacific Ocean.  The Monument includes 20,000 rocks, islands, pinnacles and reefs.

Get Out For A Quick Hike or Bike Ride Near Redding

View of Three Shastas from Chamise PeakThere's a trail for just about everyone near Redding, whether it be the abundant dirt single-track near Keswick and at Swasey Drive or the 11 mile paved Sacramento River Rail Trail which connects Redding to Shasta Dam.  The extensive trail network surrounding Redding makes it easy for mountain bikers, hikers, and horseback riders of all ages and skill levels to have an enjoyable experience.  Be sure to check out the Mule Ridge Trails, our newest trail system with about 19 miles of dirt single-track that connects to the Swasey Recreation Area and Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.  The trails page has information, directions, and maps for all of the BLM managed trails and trailheads in the area.

The Chappie Shasta Off-Highway vehicle area offers 200 miles of roads and trails for off-road enthusiasts, and spectacular views of Shasta Dam, Shasta Lake, and Mount Shasta. Camping is available near the staging area below Shasta Dam.

The Wild and Scenic Trinity River, between Lewiston and Pigeon Point, is the home of world-famous fly fishing. Adrenaline junkies can ride the raging waters below Pigeon Point, while visitors interested in relaxation can enjoy the abundant camping or head for the trail.

Visitors can hike or horseback-ride the Yana trail, or lazily float down the Sacramento River in a raft or canoe. Hunters will find abundant deer, pigs and waterfowl in the Paynes Creek Wetlands.

The beautiful Forks of Butte Creek area, 25 miles northeast of Chico, has trails through steep canyons covered in pine and fir trees, and offers free low-impact gold-panning for your mining pleasure.
