Senior Obama Trade Official and U.S. Companies Explore $300 Billion Infrastructure Projects in Qatar and United Arab Emirates
Under Secretary Sánchez Concludes Transportation Infrastructure Trade Mission in Dubai
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – U.S. Commerce Under Secretary for International Trade Francisco Sánchez today concluded his transportation infrastructure trade mission to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) by pledging U.S. government support for a new U.S. Trade Center to be constructed in Sharjah. Sánchez is traveling with a delegation of representatives from 14 U.S. companies seeking opportunities to export goods and services in the competitive transportation infrastructure/multimodal sector. Qatar and the U.A.E. have announced plans for future infrastructure projects valued at an estimated $300 billion.
“Sharjah has distinguished itself as an educational and cultural hub in the U.A.E., and this business center will further its reputation as a place Americans can do business,” Sánchez said. “We look forward to working with Sharjah officials to promote further trade between our countries that will contribute greatly to local economic development and jobs in the United States.”
Throughout the five-day mission, Sánchez and the delegation met with senior Qatari and U.A.E. government officials and private sector leaders to discuss opportunities for expanding U.S. exports that support planned transportation infrastructure projects.
“No country can thrive economically without a reliable and efficient transportation network,” Sánchez said. “This region’s planned transportation and infrastructure projects are the building blocks for future success. The U.S. companies on this mission can be a very valuable asset to ensuring continued development within Qatar and the U.A.E.”
“This mission served MagneMotion well,” said MagneMotion Vice President for Strategic Planning and Business Development Jim Wieler. “We made the right contacts and had the best possible introduction for our company to both the Qatar and U.A.E. markets.”
This trade mission advances President Obama’s National Export Initiative which aims to double U.S. exports by the end of 2014, supporting economic and job growth.
