U.S. Commerce Secretary to Deliver Keynote at the International District Export Council Conference
WASHINGTON – U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Gary Locke will headline the International District Export Council (DEC) Conference in Detroit, MI on October 24-27, 2010. Locke will highlight President Obama’s National Export Initiative – aimed at doubling U.S. exports over the next five years and supporting several million new jobs. The East Michigan District Export Council and the U.S Commercial Service will host the 2010 Conference, entitled “Capitalizing on America’s Export Advantages: Green and Innovation.”
Locke will be joined by Senators Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin, and Francisco Sánchez, undersecretary of commerce for international trade to highlight innovation, sustainability and competitiveness issues that contribute to businesses being successful exporters.
The hundreds of business and industry leaders and high level government officials expected to attend this annual conference will benefit from how-to seminars and compelling speakers addressing issues surrounding selling products and services outside the U.S. Attendees will also enjoy numerous networking opportunities and field trips across the border to Canada as well.
District Export Councils (DECs) are groups of international business professionals, appointed by the Secretary of Commerce, who support the mission of the U.S. Commercial Service of the Department of Commerce by encouraging and supporting exports in their local communities. Closely affiliated with the Commerce Department’s U.S. Export Assistance Centers, the 60 DECs are made up of approximately 1,500 exporters and export service providers who support the U.S. Government’s export promotion efforts throughout the country. Through its global network of trade specialists located in U.S. Export Assistance Centers in 109 U.S. locations, the U.S. Commercial Service works one-on-one with U.S. companies through every step of the exporting process to ensure they are able to export and compete fairly in the global market.
