Alvarado Arrested in El Paso

LAS CRUCES, NM – On April 9, 2012, Tommy Alvarado was arrested in El Paso, Texas.  On  March 2, 2012, United States Marshals Service, District of New Mexico, placed fugitive Tommy Alvarado on the New Mexico’s Most Wanted.  Alvarado is a self-proclaimed member of the Barrio Azteca street gang and EPT prison gang.   On April 9, 2012, Alvarado was the passenger in a vehicle that fled from the El Paso County Constable Precinct 6.  When the Constable got the vehicle stopped Alvarado was taken into custody and found in possession of a firearm and methamphetamine.  The Barrio Azteca Gang is the largest and most active prison gang in the El Paso area and was founded in the mid 1980's.

Tommy Alvarado had a warrant for his arrest out of the State of New Mexico Probation and Parole Office for Absconding.  Alvarado’s initial charge is for Trafficking narcotics.

In January of 2012, Alvarado violated his probation by being in possession of a firearm.  Alvarado was released from custody on bond on January 31, 2012, and immediately fled from justice.  Alvarado violated his probation in 2010 when he was involved in a shooting with rival gang members.  Alvarado was booked in to custody and is awaiting extradition.

District of New Mexico, United States Marshal, Conrad Candelaria, said “In order to combat the sub culture of gangs, the Marshals Service for the District of New Mexico has implemented an enforcement strategy that concentrates on three types of violent fugitives that are more likely to promote and engage in the furtherance of criminal activities: the violent criminal offenders, sexual predators and criminal gang offenders are the makeup of the District’s New Mexico’s Most Wanted.  This arrest is another example of the level of commitment by the Marshals Service to pursue dangerous fugitives.”
