New Mexico’s Most Wanted Alleged Child Predator Arrested

Las Cruces, NM - The United States Marshals Service and the Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD) arrested Javier Mendez. Mendez was listed on the United States Marshals Service “New Mexico’s Most Wanted” program under the sexual offender category. Mendez has been wanted since May of 2011 and is charged with 3 counts of Criminal Sexual Penetration of a Minor and Intimidation of a Witness. Mendez also has a criminal history of multiple arrests involving assault and driving under the influence.

Detectives with the Las Cruces Police Department and Deputies assigned to the Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team (SWIFT)Task Force received information that Mendez was possibly hiding in a hotel in the Las Cruces area. Investigators were able to identify the hotel where Mendez was hiding and that he was using the alias of “Jesse Martinez”. Marshals Service Deputies, Task Force Officers, and Detectives from LCPD were able to arrest Mendez without incident and he was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center pending court proceedings.
