U.S. Marshals Conduct Operation "Fall Classic"

Las Cruces, NM – On Friday, September 16, 2011, United States Marshals concluded Operation Fall Classic in Dona Ana County, Las Cruces, New Mexico. The 3 day operation targeted the 232 active registered sex offenders living in the area. The objective of the operation was verification of addresses and statutory compliance of registered sex offenders residing within Dona Ana County.

Operation “Fall Classic,” was comprised of a team of law enforcement officers from: the United States Marshals Service, NM State Police, US Federal Probation, NM State Probation and Parole, Las Cruces Police Department, and the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Department. During the course of the 3 day operation law enforcement officers had cause to arrest four subjects. Two subjects were arrested for outstanding warrants; one warrant was for a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, while the other was for a Federal Probation Violation. The other two individuals were currently being supervised by New Mexico State Probation and were found to be in possession of firearms or ammunition and therefore were arrested on those probation violations and are facing additional charges for a felon being in possession of firearms or ammunition.

Six additional violations are currently being investigated. Of these six, five of them are being investigated for possible violations of the sex offender registration and one individual for possession of child pornography.

Of the 232 sex offenders living in Dona Ana County, 100% were verified or are currently being investigated for non-compliance.

District of New Mexico, United States Marshal, Conrad E. Candelaria, said “The Marshals Service for the District of New Mexico considers the safety of all New Mexicans is paramount but the overarching goal of these collaborative sexual offender verification operations is the protection and safety of our children, because no child should live through a traumatic life threatening experience at the hands of a sexual predator”.
